Restoration Study

"You may wish to begin your preparation by reading afresh Joseph Smith’s account of the First Vision as recorded in the Pearl of Great Price. Or ponder important questions such as, “How would my life be different if my knowledge gained from the Book of Mormon were suddenly taken away?” or “How have the events that followed the First Vision made a difference for me and my loved ones?”

Select your own questions. Design your own plan. Act on any of these invitations to prepare yourself for sharing the important messages of the ongoing Restoration... The time to act is now. This is a hinge point in the history of the Church, and your part is vital."

Each day we have the opportunity to find ways to study the Restoration with our family. Each home situation is different, as we seek revelation we can be guided to how to focus on the Restoration with those closest to us. Use the scriptures especially the Book of Mormon to find evidence of the hand of the Lord in the Restoration. These daily actions will bring the Spirit into our homes and lives in greater abundance.

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering."

James 1:5-6

Ideas for doing a Restoration study with your family include sharing videos or images about the First Vision. Ask your family to share their experiences learning about the First Vision and their experience with personal revelation. If there are children in your family ask them to describe the events in their own words. Read the account of the First Vision in the Pearl of Great Price and listen to the hymn Joseph Smith's First Prayer (link below).

For future studies, you can consider studying Saints Volume 1 and 2 along with reading and watching Church History accounts on the Saints Channel. Also, try incorporating different stories from when your family discovered the message of the Restored Gospel.

Share your testimony of Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Restoration and consider reading D&C 135 specifically verse 3.

"I plead with you who have distanced yourselves from the church and with you who have not yet really sought to know that the Savior’s church has been restored.

Do the spiritual work to find out for yourselves, and please do it now. Time is running out."
